Open Space and Wildlife

The City of Westminster, Jefferson County, the City of Thornton and Adams County have established a continuous open space area from Standley Lake to 168th Avenue.  The open space provides a continuous paved bike trail along the creek, with ample opportunity for bird and wildlife watching.

Big Dry Creek Trail (Westminster-Jefferson County): The Big Dry Creek Trail meanders nearly 12 miles within Westminster from Standley Lake Regional Park to Interstate 25 and beyond into Thornton. The trail is located on more than 900 acres of Westminster open space and 200 acres of park land along the creek. For a trail map, click here.

Big Dry Creek Trail (Thornton-Adams County): The portion of the Big Dry Creek Trail in Thornton begins near I-25/Thorncreek Golf Course and extends to nearly 168th Avenue. As part of Recreation and Floodplain Restoration Master Plan, stream restoration projects are planned for  a portion of the creek along the trail. For a trail map, click here.
