About
The Big Dry Creek Watershed Association is a voluntary association of individuals and entities who dedicate time and resources to developing a sound scientific understanding of water quality, flow, aquatic life and habitat conditions in the Big Dry Creek Watershed and act to improve these conditions. The Association conducts an extensive in-stream monitoring program, maintains a large water quality database, annually analyzes data and presents findings to stakeholders, conducts public education activities, and conducts special studies of watershed issues identified by stakeholders.
The Association was founded in 1997 by the City and County of Broomfield, City of Northglenn, City of Westminster and the U.S. Department of Energy Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site (Rocky Flats), with support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These four entities initially focused on Big Dry Creek because they discharged treated wastewater to the stream. In 2004, the group formalized their association as a nonprofit corporation and representatives of Adams and Weld Counties and the City of Thornton have since joined the Association’s Board of Directors. The Woman Creek Reservoir Authority also provides financial support.
The Association is open to those interested in cooperatively working towards understanding and prioritizing efforts to improve basin conditions. Public meetings are held approximately.
