Nutrients

Reduction of nutrient loading to streams and lakes throughout Colorado is a high priority under Colorado’s 10-Year Water Quality Roadmap.  Reductions of both total phosphorus and total nitrogen are targeted under Regulation 85 and Regulation 31. While much of this challenge initially falls to wastewater treatment plant load reductions, residents can also help to reduce nutrient loading to streams by managing fertilizer application and irrigation of lawns and gardens.  Colorado State University provides useful resources on actions you can take to reduce nutrient loading:
